History

2007-08: This marked the defenseman’s first season with Saskatoon (WHL). In 67 appearances, he managed to net nine goals and 31 helpers for a total of 40 points.

2008-09: In his second season with the Saskatoon Blades (WHL), Elliott saw his numbers improve. His sophomore campaign yielded 55 points (16g+39a) in 71 games. He continued to stay out of penalty trouble, seeing only 26 minutes in the box. Netted a goal and three assists in seven postseason matches.  Elliott appeared in the 2009 CHL Top Prospects Game, and Team Canada in the U18 world championships.

Talent Analysis

Elliott is an offensively gifted defenseman who has begun to flourish in a role that includes play on all special teams with the Blades. He is evolving into a leadership role as well, under the tutelage of head coach Lorne Molleken. A very good passer of the puck, Elliott creates scoring chances with his good vision and anticipation. He is mobile enough to force opponents wide as they approach the attacking zone. He should be able to increase his strength heading into next season, which will enable him to more effectively handle opposing forwards in front of the net.

Future

Saskatoon is likely to battle the Brandon Wheat Kings next season for Eastern Conference supremacy. Elliott is familiar with the rivalry and has the ability top emerge next season as a consistent threat offensively from the back end. Another season or two in the WHL will enable Elliott to further build confidence and strength. A potential top-four NHL defenseman, look for Elliott to develop a Brian Rafalski-like skill set.
