History

Spent the 2004-05 season with the Illinois Midgets of the USMHL.

2005-06: McGann appeared in 17 games for the Roughriders going 5-8-3-1. He posted a goals against average of 2.95 and a .910 save percentage that season.

2006-07: McGann began the season with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders before being dealt to the Chicago Steel for fellow Stars prospect Richard Bachman.  McGann really had no choice but to produce dismal numbers due to the nature of the team in front of him.  The team won just 12 of 60 games on the year.  Despite that, he posted a better than .900 save pct. (.901) and 4.30 GAA (both second on the team, out of four).

2007-08: The Illinois-native would then move to Quinnipiac University where he was used as a backup.  Appearing in just eight games, McGann struggled mightily.  A 4.72 GAA and, by far, team-worst .808 save pct.  He gave up 19 goals on fewer than 100 shots.  However, limited ice time combined with a brand new environment and league could certainly be attributing factors and he will obviously look to rebound in 2008-09.

Talent Analysis

McGann is not a very polished goalie and he needs work on even the most fundamental aspects of his game.  He’s about as raw a goalie prospect you can find.  His athleticism and reflexes have carried him to this point, but are unlikely to carry him much further without adding dimensions to his game.  He appears to handle goal-mouth scrambles better than any sort of chances on the rush.  Needs to work on stickhandling.

Future

Will need to show some semblance of consistency at Quinnipiac to even be considered a professional prospect.

Potential: With improvement, minor league goaltender.
