History
2007-08: Mayorov had a frustrating season with Kazan in Russia. Mayorov suited up for only 11 games with the Russian club, and did not have a prominent role. Mayorov played in the Canada-Russia Super Series, but did not get invited to play in the 2008 U20 WJC. Mayorov possesses an intriguing mixture of size and skill, but he must have the opportunity to play in order to take advantage of it.
Talent Analysis
The young winger forward definitely has impressive size at 6’2 and 192 pounds. However, his work ethic has not been consistent and he has not been able to make a significant impact on Russia’s national team. A pure sniper, this young forward has wheels on him, solid puck handling and can surprise some with a burst of speed and then a precise wrist shot. He does however need to improve his defensive play and become a bigger physical presence. Instead of returning into his own zone, he often tends to float and look for an offensive breakout chance, which at times cost his team dearly.
Future
Mayorov came over to North America for the Columbus prospect camp, and was chosen in the CHL import draft by the Brandon Wheat Kings. If he spends the year in North America, he will most likely attend the Columbus training camp and play in the WHL. Should he return to Russia, he will spend another season with Kazan.
