History
A native of Ontario, Marquardt wasn't selected in his OHL draft year. Instead, Ted Nolan enticed him to come east and join the Moncton Wildcats. The Wildcats couldn't be happier, as Marquardt improved and garnered more ice time as the season progressed, finishing with 25 points, 16 of which were goals. The bruiser was one of the team's many unsung heroes during the Memorial Cup tournament.
Selected by 7th round (#194 overall) in the 2006 entry draft.
2006-07: With the departure of several high-end prospects to a variety of AHL destinations and headman Nolan to the NHL, Marquardt had an unexpected surge in offensive production his second season with Moncton. He was tops on the team in both goals and total points. 19 of his goals came on the powerplay.
2007-08: After beginning the season with Moncton, he was traded at the deadline to the Baie Comeau Drakkar. Baie Comeau suffered a disappointing loss in the first round to the Oceanic from Rimouski.
Traded to the Boston Bruins in May 2008. Signed an entry level contract.
Talent Analysis
A mammoth of a player, Marquardt already has NHL size. He's a relentless and punishing hitter with the ability to change the momentum of the game with his checks. However he also possesses surprising soft hands and an accurate shot. As can be expected, his skating requires plenty of work, although with his work ethic that should not be a problem in a few years.
