History
2004-05: Playing in the GTHL for the Toronto Red Wings, Caporusso registerd 70 points including 41 goals in 56 games. The 70 point total was tops in the league and Caporusso led his team…
2005-06: Following his phenomenal season in the GTHL, Caporusso was selected by the St. Michael’s Majors in the 2005 OHL draft. The 10th round pick never made it to the OHL, instead playing for St. Michael’s OPJHL team. In his first season, Caporusso was again a leader in scoring as he registered 73 points, including 29 goals in 48 games. Of his 29 goals, 10 were notched during special teams play with nine coming on the power play. In the playoffs, Caporusso registered just 17 points in 25 games as the Buzzers captured the OPJHL championship.
2006-07: Caporusso continued to be a prolific scorer in the OPJHL. In 37 games, he tallied 23 goals and 50 points. Of the 23 goals, six came on the power play. The Buzzers finished with a remarkable 33-9-7 record and Caporusso was a force in the playoffs scoring 14 goals and adding 19 assists in just 20 games. St. Michael’s lost in the finals.
The diminutive high-scoring forward Louie Caporusso got special recommendation from Ottawa Director of Amateur Scouting Frank Jay. Ottawa selected Caporusso with their third pick in the 2007 draft 90th overall. He will attend the University of Michigan in the fall of 2007.
Talent Analysis
Caporusso’s most obvious weakness is his severe lack of size. At just 5’9, 185, he is easily knocked around and overpowered. His skill and speed are what fuels his offensive game. Caporusso has extremely soft hands and speed to burn. He is a shifty player and transitions the puck well. To make up for his lack of size, Caporusso is extremely slick and elusive. He has an uncanny ability to sneak in and out of corners unscathed. Despite his lack of size, Caporusso does not shy away from traffic areas and is a pesky forechecker. He possesses a quick accurate shot and excellent vision. He excels at finding passing lanes on the power play.
Future
Caporusso has much development ahead of him including an obvious need to fill in his undersized 5’9 frame. It’s unlikely he’ll play a depth or checking role on any team due to his lack of size.
