History

2006-07: Foss had a busy season this year, playing for three different squads. He ended his high school career at Moorhead in Minnesota- he ended with 46 points (15 goals, 31 assists) in 26 games. He moved to the UMWEHL, bluelining for Team Great Plains where he recorded 16 points (3g+13a). He finished the year by joining up with the Sioux Falls Stampede for 11 games, where he notched an assist.

2007-08: Foss completed a superb freshman season at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he posted four points (one goal, three assists) playing in 38 games. Foss played much of the season alongside fellow Minnesotan Bryan Brutlag and was one of the Engineers top four defensemen, playing in all situations. Foss’ first collegiate (and only goal of the season), a shorthanded tally, came back on Nov. 30 against Princeton.

Talent Analysis

Foss is a mobile, two-way defenseman with size and excellent skating ability. He plays a simple yet intelligent defensive game and his decision-making is also very good. He uses his size and long reach quite effectively, whether it is making good outlet passes or defending one-on-one. While Foss is not a particularly physical rearguard, he will play the body when necessary.

On the offensive side, Foss can be found jumping into the play often. He transitions quite well and is very poised with the puck.

One attribute that made Foss so effective at RPI this season was his stick work. He did an excellent job of taking away passing/shooting lanes. While he was also did a nice of job tying up opposing players’ sticks, it is an area that should continue to progress in as his collegiate career moves along. As Foss develops more physical strength, he’ll become a more effective defenseman both at the collegiate and pro levels.

Future

Foss will enter his junior year at RPI in 2009-10.
