History

Undrafted out of Junior C, Francis Wathier made the Hull Olympiques as a walk-on for the 2001-02 season. He has been with the Hull/Gatineau since then and has steadily progressed. He has earned a President’s Cup with the Olympiques during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 season, but has fallen short of winning a Memorial Cup both years.

2007-08: Wathier missed most of the season due to a shoulder injury that stemmed from Stars training camp.  He returned for 19 games with Iowa (AHL), scoring five points.  Was one of a handful to be on call on an emergency basis during Dallas’ playoff run, which was somewhat unexpected because of how much time he missed this season.

Talent Analysis

One of Wathier’s strongest assets is his resiliency and determination. His personal and physical dedication is unchallenged, even though he is still young and very raw. It is safe to say that he is far short from being a superstar, but he’ll win you over with his strong work ethic. He is a character type player who will go get the dirty work done on the third or fourth line. He is also a capable fighter, though has curtailed that aspect back a bit, focusing on developing more of a balanced package.

Future

Wathier will likely spend the year in the minors and will only see NHL time if an injury epidemic occurs in Dallas.

Potential: 13th forward, like a smaller, less talented Michael Rupp.
