2007-08: Saw his first taste of NHL action in a three game call-up to finish off the season. Improved upon his AHL rookie season, playing a more consistent game, and contributing more offensively. Played on one of the top two lines most of the season. Was effective killing penalties, leading the Crunch in short-handed goals.
Talent Analysis
Pineault uses his size to his advantage on the ice, playing a hard-nosed, gritty, power forward style which helps him to generate turnovers and win loose pucks along the boards in both zones. Pineault is a powerful skater with great acceleration that helps him get past defenders on the wings. He is a strong puckhandler who is very confident in carrying the puck in the offensive zone and is willing to hold onto it until a teammate becomes available for a pass. He has good vision and passing skills. His strongest asset is his booming slapshot and particularly his ability to control one-timers, which is excellent.
