History
Jenks is an American player, who skated for the Detroit Honeybaked Minor Midget AAA team during the 2005-06 season. Highly-touted, Jenks gave a verbal commitment to play for the University of Michigan, which caused him to drop in the OHL Priority Draft that spring. The Plymouth Whalers selected the big center in the seventh round of the draft, and then was able to convince him to play in the OHL.
2006-07: Jenks did not get a huge amount of ice time on the very talented Whalers team last season. However, with 23 points in 68 games, Jenks was the leading rookie on the team.
2007-08: This season, Jenks more than doubled his offensive production, ranking third overall on the Plymouth Whalers with 55 points in 68 games. He was also invited to the US National Team tryouts in Lake Placid and played in the 2007 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
Talent Analysis
A big winger, who can skate well for his size, with a long reach, Jenks is solid defensively and can play on the PK, as well as take face-offs. He needs to be sure to finish his checks and stay disciplined in his play and approach to the game, and is a high-risk, high-reward player.
Future
Jenks has the talents of an effective third-line power forward in the NHL. Yet, if he can retain any of his scoring ability he showed in junior hockey a season ago, he could develop into a top-six forward.
